Japanese warriors used to tie hsotages using a martial art known as hojoujutsu. this art eventually would evolve into Kinbaku or Shibari.

This painting was made using Japanese sumi ink made in Nara. The ink, made from pine soot, has a very subtle blueish undertone. Genuine indigo has also been added to the ink to boost its blueish tone. Japanese traditional pigments are used for the colour including ground oyster shell (gofun) for the white.

A thin border of the backing paper has been left around the paper.
